Directed Access to Places and Parts
A couple of things to know in advance. You’ll be seeing a lot of strangers in your travels. You can tell a,lot about them by their attire, tattoos, facial jewelry, etc, but it’s also wise to know that the initials on T-shirts are part of the requirements of parole for various felonies and misdemeanors. Here’s a useful key:
Also, without getting too technical, you should know the original Word97 version of Shuteye Town had embedded sound files that could be clicked to play. The HTML version lacks that feature; however, the age of laptop and tablet devices often enables continued play of YouTube files in background while working on other apps. We have a separate post offering options in this regard. Here, we are providing you with several links for background play in your mall travels, train sounds for time spent in the subway, and two more for unusual environments like the Undernet or anything smacking of otherness:
Just start the file and return here. If it turns off momentarily, it should resume (your device depending) when you’re back at ST99. Not necessary but amusing, and you get to select the volume settings, there are no rules. You can pick your own music obviously.
One more thing, the size of the ST99 graphic display varies by browser. In Safari, the size is modest, though every file can be expanded on touch screens with thumb and forefinger stretching. (The standard size of display is significantly larger on Chrome.) This comes in handy for finding small links, of which there are many on appliances like vending machines, ATMs, remote controls, small implements, etc. Don’t forget that this monster began life as a video game and making the player do some work to find the cool stuff was always part of the design.
If you get lost or dead-ended anywhere, which can happen here just as it does in other video games, you can always come back here and start again. Perfectly legal. There is no limit on the number of deaths you can experience in Shuteye Town. Just saying…
